The CID
today arrested two more army personnel believed to be involved in the abduction
and assault of Keith
Noyahr, the former deputy editor of The Nation newspaper. They were
subsequently remanded by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate till March 3.
The
latest arrest comes, just hours after the CID arrested three other army
personnel including a Major, who was later remanded till February 23. Nohayr,
was abducted on May 22, 2008 near his residence, when he was returning home
after work. He was dropped off close to his residence, during the early morning
of May 23, severely injured after being assaulted by the abductors. He left the
country following the incident.
His
abduction came just days after he penned an article in The Nation for the
‘military matters’ column which was critical of Sarath Fonseka, who was the
Army Commander then.
